Women of color candidates are often not considered "viable" when they embark on their run for office. When they are running for office in majority white communities, many feel they shouldn't be running at all. This thinking leads to less support for women of color when they run for office and prevents many from wanting to run at all.
The BGG Founder A'shanti F. Gholar speaks on this issue in her latest opinion piece for Huffington Post called Women Of Color Are Viable Candidates No Matter What Their Communities Look Like. You can read the piece here.
